The ICPO-Interpol General Assembly, meeting in Cancún from 5 to 8 October 2004 at its 73rd session:

ALSO BEARING IN MIND the need clearly expressed by member countries to encourage the sharing of such information,

EMPHASIZING that this initiative is widely supported by various international organizations (G8, European Union, International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO),

DEEMING that the Interpol Stolen Travel Documents Database provides the technical and legal guarantees to allow the Organization to offer an effective service which meets the data-protection requirements of its member countries,

ALSO RECALLING that, to effectively prevent all forms of crime, it is necessary for all member countries and as many national law-enforcement units as possible, authorized by the National Central Bureaus and in conformity with national legislation, to be able to access such information directly,

ASKS the General Secretariat to take all appropriate steps to increase the use of the Database, ensure it is used in a proper manner, and encourage co-operation by member countries;

URGES member countries to use the Organization's network to share information about stolen travel documents, and to develop the necessary information, training and control systems in order to contribute effectively to preventing and combating transnational crime.
