DNA
Profiling
Regional support
In compliance with Interpol's regionalization policy, the Interpol DNA Unit
will provide regional support to Member States to consolidate best practice
with the ultimate goal of increasing Member State involvement in the international
transfer of DNA profiles.
Initially, it is intended to address and facilitate;
- Exchange of information both intra and inter regionally
- Best practice of collection, retention, destruction, evidential presentation
- Collaboration between regional forensic institutes
And is aimed at;
- OIC Crime Office
- Crime scene examiners
- Reporting officers
- Investigators
- Prosecutors
- Criminal training
- Regional partners
Through regional meetings, workshops, training and information packages, it
is hoped that this will contribute to a commonality of DNA profiling procedures
and promote the involvement of Member States to use the Interpol DNA Database
to assist their investigations in internationally related cases.
The Regional Support program also endeavours to provide assistance to specific
Member States experiencing difficulties in applying the best practice procedures
in DNA profiling ranging from the scene of the crime to the laboratory to the
witness stand.
