IFSS Format (revised 2004)

The Triennial Interpol Forensic Science Symposium is a forum for forensic managers from all Interpol Member States to facilitate:

• exchanging information which will enhance scientific contributions in criminal investigation and the administration of justice,
  
  
• presenting updates made in forensic evidence types over the previous 3 years,
  
  
• discussing current forensic issues encountered by Member states and the possible provision of solutions by the combined experience and expertise of the participants,
  
  
• identifying trends and potential impacts on forensic science,
  
  
• creating a bridge with the international forensic community which supports the Interpol mission.

1. A Chair to be elected by the symposium to chair the next symposium and form the organizing committee for the next meeting. The chair proposes an organizing committee, and if necessary seeks additional volunteers.
   
   
2. The incoming organizing committee will ratify the selection of coordinating laboratories and evidence types, based on proposals from the current organizing committee to ensure an internationally recognized co-ordinating laboratory for each evidence type of the agenda.
   
   
3. The co-ordinating laboratory to contact the member states and working groups to prepare a review paper to a format determined by the proceedings coordinator and a talking paper for their evidence type for presentation at the next symposium.
   
   
4. The chair appoints members of the organizing committee or others to handle the following aspects of the symposium:
   
   
   • technical co-ordinators, responsible for managing the evidence reviews and ensuring that the review papers as well as the talking papers are completed by the coordinating laboratories and chairing the respective session.
     
     
   • co-ordinators for the thematic panels, ensuring to find the speakers for a given theme, collate presentations and moderating the panels.
     
     
   • co-ordinator for the poster session, reviewing the poster abstracts in concert with the technical coordinators and the Interpol liaison to ensure the organization of the poster exhibition during the symposium.
     
     
   • co-ordinator for the symposium proceedings, to prepare a format for the review papers, ensuring the compilation of the review papers, the special thematic papers as well as the poster abstracts for the symposium proceedings, in concert with the Interpol liaison and updating the symposium webpage on the Interpol website. Conduct the symposium survey and ensure that the results are incorporated into the program of the next symposium. Publishing the proceedings.
     
     
   • Interpol representative, ensuring the permanent liaison between the Interpol General Secretariat and the organizing committee, supporting the vision, mission and core functions of Interpol.

• Intensify interaction with IPGS

Charge the Organizing Committee with developing a 'resolution on forensic science' to be submitted to the Interpol General Assembly for adoption.
