Panel Summaries
Towards the conclusion of the Fifth Global Congress in Cancun, the Chairs (or their representatives) provided summaries of their respective Panel sessions. These summaries will provide a key foundation for the Fifth Global Congress Outcomes Declaration. The Global Congress Steering Group is currently developing the Outcomes Declaration and expects it to be finalized and posted on the Congress website around the middle of January 2010.

4th Global Congress
3-5 February 2008, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Senior international government officials, law enforcement representatives and business leaders from 70 countries gathered in Dubai for the Fourth Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy from 3-5 February 2008, the first time the event has been held outside Europe.
Hosted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and Dubai Customs, the Congress convened with INTERPOL and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with the support and co-operation of the world’s business community represented by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) through its BASCAP (Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy) initiative, the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the International Security Management Association (ISMA).
The Global Congress has become a key international forum for identifying and developing practical strategies to combat the production and distribution of counterfeit and pirated products which threaten consumers’ health and safety, economic development and good governance.
Key areas discussed during the three-day meeting included: The Health and Safety Risks Counterfeit Products Pose to Consumers; Raising Awareness on the Full Economic and Social Costs of Counterfeiting and Piracy; The Growing Problem of the Sale of Counterfeit and Pirated Products over the Internet; and, Strengthening Co-operation and Collaboration at the Global Level.
