This year’s INTERPOL General Assembly opened with a ministerial meeting bringing together justice, security and home affairs ministers from some 100 countries. The theme for discussion was ‘Challenges for police facing contemporary criminal violence’.
Police chiefs and other senior law enforcement officials from around the world discussed critical challenges for police in responding to current and developing criminal phenomena and shared best practices based on national and international experience.
The General Assembly is composed of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries. As INTERPOL's supreme governing body, it meets once a year and takes all the major decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programmes of activities. It also elects the Organization's Executive Committee. Generally speaking, the Assembly takes decisions by a simple majority in the form of resolutions. Each member country represented has one vote.
