La Policía Civil Nacional de Ecuador – que depende del Ministerio del Interior - fue fundada en febrero de 1975 y cuenta con aproximadamente 40.000 funcionarios de Policía.

Misión

“La Policía Nacional es una institución estatal de carácter civil, armada, técnica, jerarquizada, disciplinada, profesional y altamente especializada, cuya misión es atender la seguridad ciudadana y el orden público, y proteger el libre ejercicio de los derechos y la seguridad de las personas dentro del territorio nacional.”

“Policía Nacional honesta respetuosa de los Derechos Humanos, efectiva en el cumplimiento de la misión que brinde calidad de servicio a la ciudadanía.”

INTERPOL Quito

La Oficina Central Nacional (OCN) de INTERPOL para Ecuador depende de la Institución Policial, una Subdirección dependiente de la Dirección Nacional de la Policía Judicial e Investigaciones.

Actividades:

Recopilación de documentos e información policial relacionados directamente con la cooperación policial internacional y envío de este material a las demás OCN y a la Secretaría General;
Intercambio de información y cooperación mutua, bajo el principio de reciprocidad, con los países miembros de INTERPOL;
Transmisión de las peticiones de cooperación internacional formuladas por las autoridades judiciales (Fiscalía, jueces, etc.) y por los servicios policiales (Policía Judicial, Antinarcóticos, Migración, etc.) a las OCN de otros países;
El Jefe de la OCN asiste a las reuniones de la Asamblea General de INTERPOL, a la reunión anual de Jefes de OCN y a la Conferencia Regional Americana, y vela por el cumplimiento de las resoluciones adoptadas en la Asamblea;
Para el cumplimiento y desarrollo de sus labores, INTERPOL Quito mantiene Grupos de Trabajo Operativo con el fin de atender los diferentes tipos de criminalidad internacional.

Estructura:

INTERPOL QUITO, orgánicamente, pertenece a la Dirección Nacional de la Policía Judicial, ubicada dentro del nivel operativo, en similar jerarquía que la Subdirección Nacional de la Policía Judicial y la Subdirección Técnico Científica.
