INTERPOL Baku

The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) for Azerbaijan was opened in 1993. Its mandate is to ensure swift and efficient criminal intelligence exchange between Azerbaijan’s law-enforcement agencies and their counterparts in other INTERPOL member countries.

INTERPOL Baku is made up of the following Departments:

  • Analysis;
  • General Crime;
  • Technical Support;
  • Registry;
  • Supplies.

It is currently staffed by 44 people, 30 of whom are police officers from the national police force.   The Head of NCB is appointed by the Minister of Internal Affairs.

INTERPOL Baku works with local law-enforcement agencies and INTERPOL member countries in localizing fugitives, missing persons and carrying out identification and record checks using INTERPOL criminal databases.  INTERPOL Baku shares data with INTERPOL partners on serious offences including terrorism, drug trafficking, trafficking in human beings and the sexual exploitation of children.

Because Azerbaijan tends to be used as a transit country for drug traffickers smuggling their produce from Central Asia towards Europe, INTERPOL Baku pays special attention to the sharing of critical drug information with local law enforcement agencies and the INTERPOL community at large.
