President of Mexico recognizes INTERPOL during national Police Day ceremony
MEXICO CITY, Mexico – President Felipe Calderón of Mexico has given special recognition to INTERPOL, the world’s largest police organization in conferring an award for international police cooperation to INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble during a ceremony marking National Police Day in Mexico.
The event on June 2 to acknowledge the Federal Police’s efforts in serious crime and efforts to keep Mexico’s citizens safe, also saw the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Director Michele Leonhart, Director General of the Colombian National Police and INTERPOL Vice President for the Americas region, General Oscar Adolfo Naranjo and former Director of the Spanish National Police Jesús de la Morena Bustillo former Director of the Spanish National Police presented with awards.
Mexico’s Minister for Seguridad Pública Federal, Genaro García Luna and Commissioner General Maribel Cervantes Guerrero, the first female head of Mexico’s Federal Police and other senior officials were also singled out by President Calderón for special recognition for their efforts in implementing a national security strategy integrating intelligence and forensic capacities.
